Tea plantation in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is absolutely breathtaking!

North or south, east or west; wherever you go, amazing experiences await you.

But what should you see and do?

Below are 5 travel tips on things to do in Sri Lanka!

1. A taste of Sri Lanka

One of the things Sri Lanka is best known for is its tea.

Irresistible tea in all sorts of flavours and colours.

Experience the whole process from plantation to steaming tea in a cup. Having experienced the process, you can enjoy a delicious cup of tea overlooking Sri Lanka’s beautiful mountains and tea plantations.

You will learn all about Sri Lankan teas, and what the dried tea leaves really mean to the Sri Lankans.

2. Visit elephants at an orphanage

Many experiences in Sri Lanka involve the beautiful, wild countryside and experiencing the wildlife in this element. But some elephants live at an elephant orphanage, where they are given help to survive.

The elephant orphanage in Pinnawela, which takes care of orphaned and injured elephants, is currently home to more than 80 elephants. The elephants are not there to entertain us,
but you can get right up close to the magnificent animals, adults and baby elephants alike, which is a very special experience.

3. Enjoy the Sri Lankan scenery from a train carriage

Sri Lanka is known for its beautiful scenery. And what is a different way to experience the scenery?

By train.

Originally used to transport spices and tea, today the old train carriages set the scene for wonderful experiences for the young and old alike.

On a train ride through parts of Sri Lanka, you will discover the wonderful highlands, the characteristic tea plantations, the green mountains, small waterfalls and the local people.

So all that remains to say is: Sit back and enjoy the view!

4. Step into the history of Jaffna Province

If history is something that interests you, head up to Jaffna Province in northern Sri Lanka.

The province oozes history – and dramatic history to boot!

Right up until 2009, the province was plagued by civil war between the Tamil Tigers and the government. The Tamil Tigers wanted independence, and the civil war lasted for more than 25 years.

Jaffna Province is in the process of being rebuilt, and it is well worth a visit if you are into history and beautiful nature.

5. Enjoy an adrenaline rush on land or on the water
