If you’ve seen photos of Sri Lanka, you’ve almost certainly seen photos of the iconic Nine Arch Bridge between Ella and Demodara.
The bridge was built in the early 20th century and is one of the best examples of railway construction in the colonial era of Sri Lanka. It is built entirely of stone, brick and cement, without the use of steel. Impressive or what?
You can walk along the rails, take photos from different angles and enjoy the lush surroundings. A train may well pass, but don’t worry, there’s room for both you and the train! What’s more, they drive slowly and can be heard from a long way off.
