Bangkok

If you’re looking for an inexpensive travel destination, you’ve come to the right place. Asia is brimming with destinations where you don’t have to compromise on price or experiences.

In this blog post, we put the spotlight on 5 tours where you get a lot for your money.

What makes a destination affordable?

Asia, especially South-east Asia, is generally a cheap destination to travel to and in, whether you arrange the tour yourself or you choose a package tour.

If you’re planning a tour yourself, you might want to look at:

  • The price of flights, accommodation and excursions
  • How much will you spend on transport when you get there?
  • Is it cheap to eat out in the country?
  • How much should you tip?
  • Low season versus high season

If you have the time and energy, there may be savings to be made by organising everything yourself. But this also takes more work.

If you choose a package tour that includes several of the above, it is the full price you need to look at. The advantage of choosing a package tour is that once you’ve chosen and booked the tour, you can sit back and look forward to the start of your holiday. When you purchase a package tour, you’re also covered by the Package Holidays and Travel Trade Act.

All tours at TourCompass are package tours, which always include flights, accommodation and scheduled excursions.

Our MOST affordable tours

We offer a whole host of different tours to suit every budget.

Our “A touch of” tours are typically the cheapest tours at our destinations. If you’re looking for an affordable package tour without the hassle of having to organise it yourself but at the same time get a lot for your money, this might be the tour for you.

The tours often include a combination of arranged excursions and days on your own, when it’s up to you what you see and do.

A touch of Bali

Ubud Bali

Bali is one of Indonesia’s most popular islands.

Despite being more expensive to travel in than some of the other Indonesian islands, Bali is actually one of our cheapest destinations.

On the A touch of Bali tour, you get 11 days with plenty of time on your own to do exactly as you please. There are very few hotel changes and very little driving around on this tour, giving you plenty of time to enjoy your holiday.

On the tour, you can look forward to discovering charming Ubud – the cultural heart of Bali – which enjoys a unique location in the Balinese highlands, a visit to the sacred water temple of Tirta Empul and a beach holiday in Sanur – one of Bali’s popular beach resorts. If you haven’t had your fill of Indonesia, it’s possible to extend your tour to include more beach holiday or experiences on Komodo Island.

A touch of Vietnam

Ho Chi Minh City Skyline

Vietnam is another cheap destination in Asia. It is currently one of our destinations with the absolute cheapest package tours to Asia.

On the A touch of Vietnam tour, which lasts 11 days from start to finish, you get a taste of what Vietnam has to offer.

You visit Ho Chi Minh City, where you will experience the unique atmosphere found in an Asian metropolis. After a few days in the city, you head to the beach paradise of Phan Thiet, which is known to be one of the best beach resorts in Vietnam.

A half-day sightseeing tour is included in Ho Chi Minh City, which takes you to the city’s major sights, but apart from that, it’s up to you what you see and do.

You can, for example, choose one of our extra excursions or explore the city on your own. A popular excursion is a trip to the famous Cu Chi Tunnels, which are located around an hour outside the city. During the war with the Americans, the maze of narrow, underground passages was used by the North Vietnamese Viet Cong as a hiding place, command centre and much more besides.

A touch of Cambodia

Angkor Wat

As Cambodia has gained in popularity as a destination in recent years, it has also become more expensive to travel in the country. Fortunately, Cambodia is still one of the cheapest South-east Asian destinations.

A touch of Cambodia is a 10-day tour during which you will experience the highlights of the two exciting cities, Siem Reap and Phnom Penh. Although it is one of our cheapest tours, it is nevertheless packed with experiences and excursions.

These include an excursion to the country’s major attraction: the ruin city of Angkor, which is home to the world-famous Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom. In addition, the exuberant capital, Phnom Penh, bids you welcome with exciting sightseeing. There is also ample opportunity to purchase excursions or explore the areas on your own if you prefer.

A beach holiday is not included on this tour, but if you would like to round off your tour in style, you can choose to extend the tour to include a few days on the paradise island of Koh Rong or in the coastal town of Kep.

A touch of Sri Lanka

Negombo

In Sri Lanka, you will find a vast array of amazing experiences in a relatively small area. In recent years, the country has gained the reputation for having expensive admission fees at its major attractions. On the other hand, it is cheap to eat out and get around the small, pear-shaped island.

On the 12-day A touch of Sri Lanka tour, you start in the UNESCO-protected city of Kandy, which is scenically situated and surrounded by the characteristic tea plantations.

You then head to Sigiriya, where you can spend the days on your own or choose some of our extra excursions, such as a visit to the Lion Rock, where King Kashyapa built his palace on the top of the almost 200-metre-high rock in the 5th century. The Lion Rock is one of Sri Lanka’s major sights.

The tour rounds off in Negombo, a versatile resort where you can enjoy the last part of your holiday on a sun lounger by the golden sandy beach. If you dream of an even longer beach holiday, you can extend your tour to include a beach holiday in Mirissa or a tour to the Maldives, which is, however, a more luxurious (and more expensive) option.

A tour to suit your budget

At TourCompass, we set great store by putting together tours that give you the most value for money, no matter what your budget.

On the 5 tours described, you get great value for money despite the relatively small budget and the opportunity to tailor the days to your wishes.
